The ongoing 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin City of northeast China's Helongjiang Province is not only drawing attention with exciting competitions, but also showcasing the fascinating local culture by offering delicacies and displaying intangible cultural heritage at the Main Press Center.
For foreign journalists who want to taste the local flavor, the canteen of the media center offers all kinds of local delicacies.
In addition to local dishes, Chinese, Asian, Continental and Halal cuisines are available for journalists from different countries and religions.
Festival food such as dumplings and glutinous rice balls will be served on the upcoming Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, or Feb 12 this year.
Exhibition areas for local intangible cultural heritage are set up on all three floors of the Main Press Center building.
The area on the first floor has several screens showing videos about local culture and attractions.
On the second floor, media workers from around the world are offered opportunities to learn traditional seal-cutting and calligraphy skills under the guidance of local artists.
On the third floor is an exhibition paying tribute to Harbin, the "City of Music", which features more than 30 vinyl records from China, the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia, as well as 10 gramophones made in Germany, France, Switzerland and other countries.
Running from Feb 7 to 14 and held under the theme "Dream of Winter, Love among Asia", this year's edition of the Games is set to be the largest ever in terms of overall participation, with over 1,200 competitors from 34 countries and regions competing in 64 events across 11 winter sports disciplines.
This is the third time the regional games are being held in China, and it marks Harbin's second time as host after the city previously staged the event back in 1996. It is also the first major international ice and snow event held in China since the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
