The 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, held the closing meeting of its third annual session on Tuesday.
President Xi Jinping and other leaders attended the meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Li Hongzhong, executive chairperson of the session's presidium, presided over the meeting attended by 2,884 NPC deputies.
National lawmakers passed a resolution on the government work report, and a resolution on the work report of the NPC Standing Committee.
The lawmakers approved a decision to amend the Law on Deputies to the National People's Congress and to the Local People's Congresses at Various Levels. The decision will take effect on March 12, 2025. The law will be amended in accordance with the decision and republished.
President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order to promulgate the law.
The lawmakers adopted a resolution on the implementation of the 2024 plan for national economic and social development and the 2025 plan for national economic and social development, and approved the 2025 plan.
They also adopted a resolution on the execution of the central and local budgets for 2024 and the central and local budgets for 2025, and approved the central budget for 2025.
The lawmakers passed resolutions on the work reports of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
Addressing the meeting, Li said that the annual session has successfully completed its agenda.
He urged the NPC deputies to act in line with the people-centered philosophy of development, practice whole-process people's democracy, and continuously strive to meet the people's aspirations for a better life.
Li, also vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over a presidium meeting and an executive chairpersons meeting on Tuesday before the closing meeting.
