China urges the United States to stop interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs, abolish the unlawful unilateral sanctions against Venezuela, and act more in ways conducive to the peace, stability and development of Venezuela and other countries, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun at a press conference on Tuesday in Beijing.
Guo's remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order declaring that any country directly or indirectly importing oil from Venezuela would face a 25 percent tariff on trades with the United States, while China is a buyer of Venezuela's oil.
"The United States has long exploited illegal unilateral sanctions, imposed the so-called 'long-arm jurisdiction' over other countries, and gravely interfered in the internal affairs of other countries. China firmly opposes all these. We urge the United States to stop interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs, abolish the unlawful unilateral sanctions on Venezuela, and act more in ways conducive to the peace, stability and development of Venezuela and other countries. There will be no winners in a trade war and tariff war. Imposing tariffs on other countries will only make U.S. firms and consumers suffer greater losses," he said.
