China has launched an anti-dumping probe into certain medical CT tubes originating from the United States and India, after receiving a domestic medical company's application, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced on Friday.

The Kunshan YiYuan Medical Technology Company, representing the domestic medical CT tubes industry, filed the application for the probe on March 7, 2025.

In assessing the application, the ministry reviewed the applicant's qualifications, details of the contested products, comparable domestic alternatives, and the impact of these imports on China's local industry, along with the conditions in the exporting countries.

Based on the review and assessment, the ministry decided to proceed with an official anti-dumping probe into imports of certain medical CT tubes from the U.S. and India.

The investigation already began on Friday (April 4, 2025), and is expected to conclude by April 4, 2026, though it may be extended by up to six months under special circumstances.

The investigation will cover the period from Jan 1, 2024, to Dec 31, 2024, for dumping practices, and the period from Jan 1, 2022, to Dec 31, 2024, to assess potential harm to the domestic industry. The related medical CT tubes are used in diagnostic X-ray computed tomography (CT) equipment. Their primary function is to generate X-rays, which are then used for medical imaging to assist in medical diagnosis.

In response to a media query about the investigation, an official from the ministry's trade remedy and investigation bureau said that preliminary evidence submitted by the applicant showed that imports of related products from the United States and India increased by 13 percent from 2022 to 2024, while their import prices continued to decline.

This has led to a downward pressure on the sales prices of domestically made products, delivering Chinese companies in the sector to operational difficulties and even losses, the official noted.

After reviewing the application in accordance with Chinese laws, regulations, and World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, the ministry concluded that the case complied with the criteria for initiating an anti-dumping probe. The investigation will be fair and impartial, with a ruling based on objective findings, said the official.
