The Art Promotion Office and the Shenzhen Fringe Art Center jointly organised the "Ink Art Ensembles" exhibition series in the GBA from 2024. Guest curated by Hong Ko and Eric Zhu, the series features five exhibitions in four cities, namely Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan and Dongguan in the GBA. The series focuses on ink art as the subject or primary creative medium of the Hong Kong artists, while other GBA artists respond through diverse creative forms with the aim to create a platform for in depth artistic dialogues and to highlight contemporary artistic experimentation and innovation.

At this exhibition held in Shenzhen, renowned Hong Kong ink artist and architect Raymond Fung infuses spatial aesthetics with ink art, offering his unique perspectives. His artworks such as "Five Ridges", "There're Mountains Beyond Mountains", "Return from the Five Ridges", and an animation "Dynasties" adapted from the artist's painting of the same title, not only showcases the majestic beauty and grandeur of China's landscapes, but also expresses the artist's open and expansive state of mind and humble attitude towards life. In the "Thousands of Words" ink series, Fung uses bar code and seals in his creation, forming a scene like flowers in full bloom, as a symbol of his connection to his birthplace, expressing a profound emotional bond with the land where he grew up.

Fung has been paying close attention to the Earth's ecological environment. His ink works, "Breathing" and "Life" series, are his profound reflections on life, depicting environmental changes through brushstrokes. The works manifest the oppressive feelings associated with ecological imbalances, revealing his concerns about the natural environment. A Western-style tableware set which was inspired by his "Breathing" series is also on display in the exhibition, capturing the fluid elegance of ink art on everyday objects. The tableware set is selected as the official tableware for the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and is exclusively used in the VIP lounges of Hong Kong International Airport.

Xing Lili from Shenzhen is committed to preserving and promoting the national intangible cultural heritage "Xiangyun Sha Dyeing and Finishing Technology". In her fashion design collections "Shu Juan", "Ya Lin", "Bu Ji", "Ting Qin" and "Ink Traces on Xiangyun Sha", she combines traditional silk fabric xiangyun sha with contemporary fashion, fuses poetic imagery and rhythmic brushwork into wearable ink lyricism. Inspired by the oriental landscape aesthetics in Fung's "Dynasties" ink painting, Xing's newest "Dynasties" collection transposes classical ink painting principles into contemporary fashion.

In addition, the exhibition features two short films, namely "Qi Shi", filmed when Raymond Fung turned 70, which offers a glimpse into the depth of insight he gained over a lifetime of artistic practice; and "Documentary on Xiangyun Sha Craftsmanship," which documents the production process of "Xiangyun Sha," a Chinese intangible cultural heritage.

The exhibition is running at 5F Exhibition Hall C at Art Museum of Guangming Culture and Art Center (No. 3488 Guan Guang Road, Guangming District, Shenzhen). Labour Department highly concerned about fatal work accident that happened in Tsuen Wan today

The Labour Department (LD) is highly concerned about a fatal work accident that happened at a construction site in Tsuen Wan this afternoon (January 14), in which several oxy-acetylene cylinders fell from a container during a lifting operation and hit workers underneath, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to two workers. The LD is saddened by the death and injury of the workers in the accident, and expresses its deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and the injured workers.

The LD's spokesman said, "We commenced an immediate on-site investigation as soon as we were notified of the accident and have issued suspension notices to the contractors concerned, suspending the lifting operation at the site. The contractors cannot resume the work process until the LD is satisfied that suitable measures to abate the relevant risks have been taken."

The spokesman added, "We will complete the investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures. We will take actions pursuant to the law if there is any violation of the work safety legislation."

To prevent loads being lifted from falling and hitting workers, the LD reminds employers to ensure that (i) the loads have been safely and securely connected to lifting gear before lifting operations; (ii) the gate of the container holding the loads is properly locked or fastened; and (iii) lifting zone is demarcated and barricaded, with no one entering the zone during lifting operations.

The general duty provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance require employers to provide safe working environments, plant and systems of work for their employees. Those who contravene the relevant provisions are liable to a maximum fine of $10 million and imprisonment for two years.

In regard to today's accident, the LD will issue a Work Safety Alert through its mobile application "OSH 2.0", website and email, giving a brief account of the accident concerned to duty holders, workers' unions, professional bodies of safety practitioners and others, and reminding the industry of the importance of following safety precautionary measures to prevent a recurrence of similar accidents.

The LD will also remind the employer concerned of the liability for employees' compensation under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance, assist family members of the deceased to claim employees' compensation and closely follow up on the case. For those with financial difficulties, the LD will assist them to apply for appropriate emergency funds. Subject to the needs and wishes of family members of the deceased, the LD will also liaise with the Social Welfare Department for financial or other assistance.

For the sake of securing the safety and health of employees at work, the LD appeals to employers to provide plant and systems of work that are safe and without risks to health. Employees should co-operate with their employers, adopt all safety measures and use personal protective equipment provided properly to avoid endangering their own work safety and that of other workers.
