The president of the China Chamber of Commerce in the European Union (CCCEU) Liu Jiandong highlighted the abundant results of China-EU economic and trade cooperation over the past five decades, while sharing his views on the prospects and potential for future bilateral cooperation.

During an interview with the China Global Television Network (CGTN), Liu said that ties between China and the EU has gradually developed into a comprehensive strategic relationship over the past five decades.

"China-Europe economic and trade cooperation has brought historic opportunities for both sides in terms of employment, tax revenue, technological innovation and economic growth. The European Union has been China's second-largest trading partner for several consecutive years, while China has been the EU's largest source of imports and its second-largest partner of trade in goods. According to statistics from both sides, from the perspective of bilateral trade, exports from both sides to each other support approximately three million jobs in the EU and six million jobs in China. From the perspective of investment, mutual investments between the two sides have ensured profit growth for European companies and the development of related green industries. The trade structure between China and the EU has also been continuously optimized, with the level of cooperation continuing to improve," said Liu.

He said that cooperation between China and the EU across various sectors is mutually beneficial. While Chinese companies provide high-quality and cost-effective goods to the European market, they also leverage Europe's advanced manufacturing and technological services to achieve their own industrial upgrades.

Meanwhile, China's new energy and digital economy are contributing to Europe's green transition, technological innovation and the enhancement of manufacturing resilience, said Liu.

"China-EU economic and trade relations feature strong complementarity, and there is great potential for future cooperation. The collaboration between China and the EU in renewable energy sectors, such as electric vehicles, wind power, photovoltaics, hydrogen energy and energy storage, is gradually deepening, becoming a focal point for bilateral investment and innovative cooperation. [Both sides will] strengthen technological collaboration and standard interoperability in areas such as artificial intelligence, 5G, 6G, cloud computing and industrial internet, to create a new ecosystem for China-EU digital cooperation. The two sides can also engage in mutually beneficial cooperation in strategic industries such as aerospace, biomedicine and smart equipment, to enhance the resilience of industrial chains and each other's global competitiveness," said Liu.

He said that the CCCEU will continue to play its due role in promoting China-EU cooperation.

"The year of 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. At this historic juncture, the CCCEU will continue to play its role as a bridge and a platform, build high-level platforms for China-EU investment and economic cooperation, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises in Europe by raising concerns and suggestions of the business community regarding the EU's business environment, and continuously promote dialogue and exchanges between China and the EU," he said.

The Iranian government is focusing on public concerns and maintaining stable supplies of essential goods amid recent protests, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a televised interview on Sunday.

In the city of Karaj, northwest of the capital Tehran, daily life has largely continued as normal. A video filmed by a local resident on Sunday shows food stores open and grocery shelves fully stocked.

"This is the block near my home, and there are some food stores here. Daily life continues here. Last night we did not see many protests in Karaj. Right now the city is very safe. This is a grocery store close to my home. All the food is available; nothing is in shortage. Here are noodles and different types of beans. Here are dairy products, cheese, and yogurt. I also checked other grocery stores and didn't see any shortages. Everything is available," said local resident Ali Reza.

Iranian officials have described recent disturbances as acts orchestrated by the "enemy," including some carried out by well-trained and armed "terrorists." The incidents have caused casualties among security personnel and civilians, as well as property damage.

The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani has directed authorities to severely punish the "terrorists."

Meanwhile, Iran's police chief Ahmad-Reza Radan said on Sunday that the police had raised alert levels and arrested several leaders of the troublemakers during the operations on Saturday.

President Pezeshkian noted in the interview that the normal demands of the Iranian people are reasonable and justified, but they must realize that triggering riots and carrying out terrorist acts are the enemy's attempts to undermine the country. He urged the public to remain vigilant.

Also on Sunday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned that Tehran would regard U.S. and Israeli bases and facilities in the Middle East as "legitimate targets" if Washington takes military action against Iran. His remarks followed media reports saying U.S. President Donald Trump is "seriously considering authorizing a strike" against Iran.

Iranian state media reported that at least 109 members of Iran's security forces have been killed in clashes since the protests began 14 days ago. Meanwhile, human rights groups based outside the country said the number of protesters killed has exceeded 200, though the figure could not be independently verified.

The protests initially erupted over a sharp depreciation of the rial and sweeping subsidy reforms. Iranian authorities have blamed the unrest on foreign-linked agents and sanctions imposed by the United States.
