Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Wednesday called for deepening international cooperation in digital education in his speech delivered at the opening ceremony of 2025 World Digital Education Conference in Wuhan City, central China's Hubei Province.
Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of digital education.
President Xi Jinping has said it is essential to implement the national strategy for the digitalization of education, build a learning society, and speed up the cultivation of large numbers of talent across all sectors and levels, Ding said.
China is speeding up work to build an educational powerhouse, Ding noted, stressing the need to further promote the digital transformation and intelligent upgrading of education, and establish a modern digital education system that is more equitable, of higher quality, smarter and serves lifelong learning for all.
This aims to strengthen education's fundamental and strategic role in the building of a modern socialist country in all respects, he said.
Ding also put forward four proposals for deepening international cooperation in digital education, namely, jointly building a high-level international open cooperation system for digital education, boosting the reform of education through digital technology, promoting inclusive sharing of digital education achievements, and strengthening the ethical and security guarantees for digital education.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Prior to the opening ceremony, Ding visited an exhibition showcasing achievements in education digitalization and exchanged views with representatives from participating organizations.
