The 2025 Cross-Strait Hanfu Festival kicked off Saturday in Xiamen City of east China's Fujian Province, bringing together more than 150 traditional Chinese dresswear enthusiasts from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to celebrate their shared cultural heritage.
The opening ceremony featured a spectacular fashion show jointly presented by young participants from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
Dressed in exquisite attire representing different Chinese dynasties, the performers showcased the evolution of Hanfu - traditional Han Chinese clothing - across centuries.
"My favorite subject is history, so when I saw that people were taking Hanfu out of the history textbooks and making it possible for us to actually wear it, it became a kind of inheritance and I was very moved by that," said Wu Huan, a Hanfu enthusiast from Taiwan.
"(This event) has given us a broader perspective. We can learn from it and promote Hanfu culture when we return to Taiwan," said Wu Min-i, another Hanfu enthusiast. The festival will last till September this year, with an exciting lineup including a short video competition, themed salons on costumes from "Dream of the Red Chamber" and traditional garden parties, according to the organizers.
