Home appliance retail sales in China had maintained double-digit growth for eight months, said He Yongqian, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Commerce at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

"According to relevant department statistics, from September 2024 to April 2025, retail sales of home appliance products maintained a double-digit growth for eight consecutive months. In April, retail sales of home appliances and audiovisual equipment by enterprises above the designated size increased by 38.8 percent year-on-year, ranking first among 16 major categories of consumer goods in terms of growth rate. Since the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with relevant departments, has expanded and improved the home appliances trade-in policy, with its effectiveness continuing to show," said He.

Data from the Ministry of Commerce's home appliance trade-in information system showed that from January to April this year, more than 34 million consumers participated in the home appliance trade-in program, purchasing over 51 million units across 12 categories of home appliances, driving total sales of 174.5 billion yuan (about 24.2 billion U.S. dollars).

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to April, retail sales of home appliances and audiovisual equipment by enterprises above the designated size reached 346.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.9 percent, exceeding the overall growth rate of total retail sales of consumer goods during the same period by 19.2 percentage points.

According to data from third-party market institutions, in the first four months of this year, offline sales revenue in major cities for key home appliance categories grew significantly, with water purifiers up by 45.3 percent, range hoods by 42 percent, gas stoves by 40.4 percent, and dishwashers by 25 percent.

"The Ministry of Commerce will act in accordance with the decisions and plans of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, ensure effective organization and implementation, guide local authorities to continuously optimize operational procedures, strengthen policy promotion and interpretation, further enhance the effectiveness of the home appliance trade-in policy, and continuously stimulate consumer vitality in the home appliance market," said He.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil issued a statement on Saturday, saying that the security alert released by the U.S. Department of State regarding Venezuela is based on false claims that do not exist and is intended to create a perception of risk that is not real.

According to the statement posted on Gil's official X account, Venezuela is currently in a state of absolute calm, peace and stability.

All residential areas, transportation routes, checkpoints and security facilities in the country are functioning normally, and all armed forces nationwide are under the government's control.

The statement came after the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs on Saturday warned that as international flights have resumed, U.S. citizens in Venezuela "should leave the country immediately."
