Indonesia hosted the inaugural Global Business Summit on Belt and Road Infrastructure in Jakarta on Sunday, bringing together business leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss increased investment in key infrastructure projects.
The country highlighted sustainability as a priority, focusing on electric vehicles, green energy, and digital education. Deepening its cooperation with China under the Belt and Road Initiative, Indonesia aims to draw investments that align with its development goals.
The Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone, a hub for tourism and creative industries, was showcased as a driver for economic growth and job creation.
"We unveil nine inspiring BRI [projects] for the SDG (sustainable development goal) pilot projects, from low-carbon innovation and digital education to ethical mining and inclusive village development. We forge new partnerships and investments that support Indonesia's long-term goals and demonstrate global solidarity through actions," said Tantowi Yahya, Chairman of Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone.
Officials attending the summit said as Indonesia has great potential in increasing its use of green energy, with the country also seeking more investment from across the world.
"So, actually, Indonesia has a potential for the green [industry]. We have a potential capacity of energy close to 3,700 megawatts. It's coming from solar, tidal, wind, and also [the other ones]. But the number is so small, so we need the technology partners, and we need also the investment funds to come to our country to grow," said Todotua Pasaribu, Vice Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry of Indonesia.
Nine outcomes and proposals were unveiled during the summit by Chinese enterprises and international partners, focusing on green transformation, technological education, renewable energy, and sustainable village development. It also saw the launch of an action network to promote the sustainable development of the China-Indonesia community.
