The China Media Group (CMG) is attending the ongoing Arab Media Summit in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates, from Monday to Wednesday, where key topics on shaping the future of the media industry are being discussed.

The three-day event has attracted around 8,000 participants from 26 countries, including ministers, editors-in-chief, media leaders, content creators, opinion leaders, scholars, and media technology professionals from Arab states, all gathering to explore and shape the future of media in the Arab world.

From artificial intelligence (AI) and immersive storytelling to the future of newsrooms in the digital age, the summit spotlights key trends shaping the global media landscape, with a focus on driving media innovation across the Middle East.

According to the organizers, the summit addresses core areas such as AI, emerging technologies, film, and gaming - all of which are increasingly central to shaping the narrative of modern media.

"We care about AI technology because it plays a vital role in news and social media content production. The media landscape is evolving rapidly, and we must keep pace with all the new developments in the field," said Maryam Al Mheiri, Acting Director of the Dubai Press Club.

As the sole representative of Chinese media at the summit, CMG engaged in extensive exchanges with industry professionals on site and was interviewed by local media, aiming to deepen media cooperation between China and Arab countries.

"Your attendance at this summit clearly highlights the achievements made by the UAE and China in media cooperation. The UAE stands to benefit from the advanced media industry and technologies of China, especially in content production and media innovation. I was particularly impressed by the cameras and advanced technologies at your booth - the high-definition cameras and cutting-edge filming technology are truly remarkable," said Sami Msadek, Executive Producer at Dubai TV.

The death toll from a landfill collapse in the central Philippine city of Cebu has risen to eight by Monday morning as search and rescue operations continued for another 28 missing people.

The landfill collapse occurred on Thursday as dozens of sanitation workers were working at the site. The disaster has already caused injuries of 18 people.

Family members of the missing people said the rescue progress is slow, and the hope for the survival of their loved ones is fading.

"For me, maybe I’ve accepted the worst result already because the garbage is poisonous and yesterday, it was raining very hard the whole day. Maybe they’ve been poisoned. For us, alive or dead, I hope we can get their bodies out of the garbage rubble," said Maria Kareen Rubin, a family member of a victim.

Families have set up camps on high ground near the landfill, awaiting news of their relatives. Some people at the site said cries for help could still be heard hours after the landfill collapsed, but these voices gradually faded away.

Bienvenido Ranido, who lost his wife in the disaster, said he can't believe all that happened.

"After they gave my wife oxygen, my kids and I were expecting that she would be saved that night because she was still alive. But the night came and till the next morning, they didn't manage to save her," he said.
