The second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange will further promote the building of sci-tech cooperation mechanisms under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and achieve more mutual benefit and win-win outcomes based on the success of its inaugural edition, Chinese Vice Minister of Science and Technology Chen Jiachang said on Tuesday.

The conference will take place in Chengdu, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province from June 10 to 12, Chen told a press conference in Beijing.

"Overall, the second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange has the following characteristics: First, the theme is very clear. That is, China has earnestly advanced the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind to promote opening up and cooperation in the science and technology sector," he said.

"Second, the conference will see high participation across a wide range of sectors. It has received positive response and extensive participation confirmation from various sectors such as the scientific community, the industrial community, and representatives of government departments," he said.

More than 100 countries and regions have actively signed up to participate in the event, Chen added.

"Third, the conference will be effective and results-oriented. At the conference, the second Belt and Road Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology, and Innovation will be held, with in-depth discussions on deepening sci-tech collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative and improving the global governance system of science and technology. Additionally, a series of scientific exchange events will be held, covering diverse fields such as brain science, artificial intelligence, future energy, transportation, traditional Chinese medicine, and disaster prevention and mitigation," he said.

At the same time, multiple parallel forums will be held such as "Technology and Finance," "Technology and Equipment," "Technology Empowering Sustainable Development," and five exchange activities focusing on international technology transfer will also be organized.

"Fourth, the conference is expected to yield substantial outcomes. During the event, a series of bilateral intergovernmental sci-tech cooperation agreements will be signed, multiple BRI special cooperation initiatives in key fields will be launched, new international mega- science programs led by Chinese scientists will be initiated, and the establishment of international technology transfer centers and a new batch of joint research platforms under the BRI will be launched," Chen said.

Furthermore, China will facilitate the signing of multiple scientific cooperation agreements among institutions to promote integrated advancements in technological and industrial innovation, so as to deliver benefits to more countries and more peoples and inject new momentum into the innovative construction of the Silk Road, according to the official.

The data showed that the forex market saw cumulative transactions of 276.41 trillion yuan (about 38.65 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first 11 months of the year.
