The 10th Triennial International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) opened in Shanghai on Saturday, bringing together leading mathematicians from around the world for in-depth academic exchanges.

The event underscores China's growing role in global research and mathematical innovation.

More than 300 high-level academic presentations are scheduled, with several Fields Medal laureates and academicians from China and abroad sharing their latest studies.

The congress will also present major honors, including the ICCM Mathematics Award, often referred to as the "Chinese Fields Medal," and recognitions for outstanding contributions to the field.

"Chinese scholars, trained domestically, have become accomplished and important figures in the field. This is evident from the sheer number of papers they have published. Therefore, I am proud to say that China will undoubtedly become a leading power in mathematics within the next five to 10 years, from a large country into a strong one," said ICCM President Shing-Tung Yau, at the press briefing.
