China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, president of Thailand's National Assembly and speaker of the House of Representatives, in Beijing on Tuesday, and both sides pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation and build a closer China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in February, when the two leaders reached important consensus on working together to advance the building of the China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Zhao said that China is ready to work with Thailand to carry forward their traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and achieve solid progress in building the China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Zhao expressed China's appreciation for Thailand's firm adherence to the one-China principle and said China is ready to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with Thailand, jointly promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and advance the synergy with Thailand's future industries, calling for the faster construction of key projects, including the China-Thailand railway.

He urged both countries to step up people-to-people exchanges, and ensure the successful celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship.

Zhao highlighted deeper cooperation in education, tourism, and joint efforts to combat cross-border crimes such as online gambling and telecom fraud.

He stressed the importance of working closely on multilateral platforms such as China-ASEAN cooperation and Lancang-Mekong cooperation, and putting into practice the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, as well as three major China-proposed global initiatives on development, security, and civilization.

Stressing that the NPC of China and Thailand's National Assembly have maintained close exchanges, Zhao called for greater multi-tiered communication between their legislative bodies and more mutual learning in social governance, public services, legislation, and oversight, so as to foster a sound legal environment for practical cooperation.

He also underscored closer coordination in mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, in a bid to enhance cooperation among legislatures of developing countries.

Wan Noor reaffirmed Thailand's firm commitment to the one-China principle and voiced readiness to strengthen cooperation with China in trade, investment, infrastructure, culture, education, and tourism within the Belt and Road framework.

He expressed support for China's efforts to uphold international fairness and justice and maintain world peace and stability.

He said that Thailand's National Assembly is willing to deepen friendly exchanges with the NPC of China and contribute to the familial bond between the two sides through enhanced legislative cooperation. Wan Noor is on a visit to China from June 22 to 28, at the invitation of Zhao.

Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Saturday China is willing to work with Lesotho to strengthen exchanges on governance experience, enhance coordination in multilateral affairs, and advance the China-Lesotho strategic partnership.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with Lesotho Prime Minister Sam Matekane in the capital of Lesotho.

During the meeting, Wang congratulated Lesotho on the 60th anniversary of its independence this year, and spoke highly of Lesotho government's efforts to prioritize economic development and steer the African country onto a path of sustainable growth. Since the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2024, the two sides have advanced cooperation under the 10 partnership action plans unveiled at the summit, successfully implementing a number of key projects to effectively promote Lesotho's development and revitalization, Wang said.

China stands ready to work with Lesotho to strengthen exchanges on governance experience, enhance coordination in multilateral affairs, and push for greater development of the China-Lesotho strategic partnership, he added.

Calling on the two sides to firmly support each other, Wang said that China will accelerate the implementation of its zero-tariff policy for African countries, including Lesotho, expand bilateral trade, investment and industrial cooperation, facilitate broader access of Lesotho's specialty products to the Chinese market, and continue to support Lesotho's national development.

China will continue to stand firmly with African countries, uphold justice for the Global South, including Lesotho, oppose unilateralism and acts of bullying, and work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity, Wang said.

On his part, Matekane said during the meeting that Lesotho cherishes its friendship with China and the strategic partnership between the two countries, and expressed gratitude for China's valuable support for the development of African countries, including Lesotho.

Lesotho firmly adheres to the one-China principle and resolutely supports China in safeguarding its core interests, he said, noting that his country stands ready to strengthen strategic mutual trust with China, expand people-to-people exchanges, jointly implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, and deepen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, manufacturing and energy.

Matekane stressed that China's zero-tariff policy for African products will inject new impetus into Lesotho's development. He also expressed Lesotho's willingness to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with China on multilateral platforms such as BRICS to jointly address global challenges.

On the same day, Wang also held talks with Lejone Mpotjoana, minister of foreign affairs and international relations of Lesotho.
