A seminar focusing on global development was held in Geneva on Wednesday, attracting representatives from multiple international organizations to attend.
Themed “Working Together to Implement the UN 2030 Agenda -- How China International Import Expo (CIIE) Helps", the event was jointly held by the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva and the CIIE Bureau.
Chen Xu, permanent representative of China to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, said that since the Global Development Initiative (GDI) was proposed four years ago, consensus among all parties has been consolidated continuously, the cooperation network has been expanded steadily, and it has taken root on the multilateral platform in Geneva.
International public goods represented by the CIIE have become an important practice for China and developing countries to deepen economic and trade cooperation and achieve common development, he said.
China welcomes all parties to continue supporting the CIIE and promote economic development, poverty reduction and improvement of people's livelihood through export growth, Chen said.
Wu Zhengping, deputy director general of the CIIE Bureau, said the CIIE has demonstrated the effectiveness of trade and openness in promoting growth, inclusiveness, innovation and improvement of people's livelihoods, and will continue to contribute to achieving the goals of the GDI.
High-level representatives of international organizations all expressed their support for the CIIE and the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and looked forward to strengthening cooperation with China to promote inclusive and beneficial economic globalization.
At the event, representatives from doTERRA, a U.S. essential oil company, and Warmpaca, a Peruvian alpaca stuffed toy brand, shared how the CIIE has opened doors for them in the Chinese market.
Held in autumn annually since 2018 in Shanghai, CIIE is the world's first import-themed national-level exhibition. The trade fair grants foreign businesses one-stop-shop access to exporting their products to China and demonstrates China's commitment to liberalizing its market and fostering global trade partnerships.
