A grand celebratory reception was held on Tuesday morning at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center to celebrate the region's 28th anniversary of return to the motherland.
John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), addressed the reception.
In his speech, Lee noted that Hong Kong has more opportunities than challenges under the "one country, two systems" policy.
HKSAR officials also expressed their strong belief that, with the robust support of the central government, proactive measures from the SAR government, and the collective efforts of all sectors of society, the region will surely embrace a better future.
"As Hong Kong members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, we are committed to fully supporting the SAR government in exercising law-based administration. We will play a dual positive role -- promoting Hong Kong among the international community and telling the Hong Kong story well, while making suggestions for deepening cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao so as to contribute to the high-quality development of the country," said Bryan Lin Xiaohui, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Hong Kong and president of the Hong Kong Environmental Practitioners General Association.
"Looking back on the extraordinary journey since Hong Kong's return to the motherland 28 years ago, we have witnessed the SAR government's exercise of law-based administration and all sectors of society forging ahead in unity under the strong leadership of the central government. The 'one country, two systems' practice has always remained on the right track," said Eliza Chan Ching-har, a member of the CPPCC National Committee in Hong Kong.
