Chen Binhua, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Wednesday condemned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for spreading separatist propositions, describing their actions as "despicable" and their intentions as "condemnable."
Chen made the remarks at a press conference in Beijing after Taiwan’s education authorities recently announced the completion of 13 new teaching materials aimed at identifying and understanding the so-called "mainland threat." These materials are expected to be gradually introduced into schools on the island starting from the new semester in September.
"The DPP authorities disregard facts and distort history. By compiling new teaching materials to hype up the so-called 'mainland threat,' they seek to incite 'anti-China' sentiment and promote Taiwan separatism propositions, further poisoning the minds of Taiwan youth following the Taiwan separatism curriculum guidelines. Their actions are despicable and their intentions are condemnable. We strongly condemn it,” Chen said.
Both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, and compatriots from both sides of the Strait belong to the same Chinese nation. The vast land of China is the shared homeland of people from both sides. China boasts a glorious history and splendid culture, and has achieved a globally recognized miracle of development, he said.
"This is the common heritage and pride of people from both sides of the Strait, something that cannot be erased or slandered by any fabricated teaching materials put together by the DPP authorities. We welcome our compatriots in Taiwan to come to the mainland more often," Chen said.
