Resuming nuclear talks requires US sincerity: Iranian FM

There is still possibility of restarting nuclear talks with the United States, under the prerequisite that the U.S. side shows sincerity and intention for a win-win solution, said Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Tianjin on Wednesday.

In an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) in the northern Chinese municipality, where he attended the SCO foreign ministers' meeting on Tuesday, Araghchi said it was the withdrawal of the U.S. from former nuclear deals that led to the turbulence today.

"We are not convinced yet that there is this real determination. At the same time, there should be also a real intention for a win-win solution. Our nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, and we are 100 percent confident on that, and we have no problem to share this confidence to anybody else. And that can happen only through negotiations. And we did it in 2015. When we negotiated with the so-called P5 plus 1 countries, and we came to a deal, we concluded the deal. And the whole world celebrated, if you remember, as an achievement of diplomacy at that time in 2015. We remain committed to that, and everybody was convinced that it's a good deal. Then all of a sudden, the United States decided to withdraw, which was very unfortunate. And everything we saw today is the result of that withdrawal," he said.

Araghchi said that possibilities of negotiation are still there depending on the gesture of the United States.

"Is there any possibility to come back to a negotiated deal? I think yes, but it needs, as I said, real, serious determination by the US side to put aside military options, look for a negotiated solution. I think the recent attack to our nuclear facilities proved that there is no military option to deal with Iran's nuclear program. There should be only a diplomatic solution, a negotiated solution can work. And we are prepared for that only when they put aside their military ambitions and compensate what they have done to us, then we can reengage in that negotiation," said Araghchi.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is ready to completely withdraw from the governmental scene in the Gaza Strip and engage in a positive and constructive manner with the second phase of the plan to end the war in the enclave, said Hamas political bureau member Basem Naim on Friday. In a statement, Naim said that the ceasefire deal became an international plan after being adopted by the United Nations Security Council. However, it is now facing obstacles.

He accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of reneging on his commitments and escalating the situation, in an attempt to return to war and save his political career. Pointing out that Israeli strikes have caused hundreds of casualties since the announcement of the ceasefire, the Hamas official said the escalation cannot occur without cover or green light from the United States. He said Hamas has committed to all its obligations under the ceasefire agreement, as attested by the mediators and the U.S., adding that it is ready for the second phase of the agreement.

He emphasized the Movement's commitment to the establishment of a fully empowered Palestinian body to administer Gaza, and its complete withdrawal from the governmental scene.

Naim warned that the situation will not be sustainable if the continued escalation of Israeli military operations and the persistence of the catastrophic humanitarian situation remain unaddressed, adding that the circle of fire may expand, which is what Netanyahu aspires to.

Since a ceasefire took effect on Oct 10, 2025, Gaza's death toll has risen to 439 with 1,223 injuries, according to local health authorities on Friday. Rescue teams have recovered 688 bodies during that period. In the broader conflict, at least 71,409 Palestinians have been killed and 171,304 wounded since Israel's military campaign in Gaza began in October 2023.
