Chinese and European entrepreneurs voiced strong support for closer economic and trade cooperation between China and Europe at a CEO roundtable in Beijing on Thursday, highlighting the fruitful outcomes of the development of China-Europe economic and trade ties and hoping for deeper collaboration between the two sides to bring greater stability to global development.

Jointly hosted by the China-Europe Enterprise Alliance and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, the China-Europe CEO Roundtable attracted the participation of nearly 60 companies from both sides representing sectors such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, agriculture, energy, e-commerce, and modern healthcare.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on key China-EU economic and trade issues, and widely agreed that partnership is the key to shared success.

"The EU and China generate approximately one-third of the world's GDP. They generate approximately one-third of the world's trade. We are very, very important commercial partners for each other. China still has the incredible opportunity of potential growth ahead of itself. I think there is a great opportunity for us to work together in Europe and elsewhere around the world," said Adam Dunnett, secretary general of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

As the world's second and third largest economies, China and Europe are seen as highly complementary and deeply interlinked. Businesses on both sides expressed eagerness to further expand trade flows and deepen collaboration across sectors.

Official data shows that bilateral trade between China and the EU has grown from 2.4 billion U.S. dollars to 780 billion over the past five decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides in 1975.

China's research icebreaker Xuelong, or Snow Dragon, departed Christchurch, New Zealand for the 42nd Antarctic Expedition on Thursday after completing resupply operations.

The vessel arrived at New Zealand's Lyttelton Port Sunday evening.

During its stay in Lyttelton, the vessel took on 1,200 tons of light oil and replenished supplies including vegetables, fruits, and fresh water.

The light oil will be brought to China's Zhongshan Station in Antarctica, exclusively for fixed-wing aircraft.

Thirty four new crew members boarded the ship in Lyttelton to commence oceanographic operations.

The supplies of fruit, vegetables and other food items include not only items for the Xuelong crew but are also destined for the Qinling Station.

"The Qinling Station has a longer overwintering period, so they will run out of fruits later in the season. To better support their daily needs, we've replenished large quantities of green vegetables, fruits, beverages, as well as beef and mutton," said Li Donghui, the service team leader of the Xuelong vessel.

During its port call, the Xuelong also completed a freshwater replenishment of approximately 600 tons. The freshwater is primarily for drinking and kitchen use, serving as vital daily supplies for the expedition team during their subsequent fieldwork.
