Over 80 pct respondents say not surprised by US withdrawal from UNESCO: CGTN poll

A recent poll conducted by the China Global Television Network (CGTN) revealed that an overwhelming 84 percent of respondents said that they were not surprised by the U.S. decision to withdraw from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The United States announced on Tuesday its decision to pull out of the UNESCO two years after rejoining.

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has repeatedly accused UNESCO of promoting so-called "divisive social and cultural causes," claiming such actions contradict the United States' "America First" policy.

The CGTN poll found that 93.5 percent of respondents were critical of the United States politicizing international institutions, while 90.7 percent saw the withdrawal as further evidence of America's entrenched bias in favor of Israel.

Earlier this year, Trump ordered a review of UNESCO, alleging "anti-Israel bias" within the organization.

However, 91 percent of poll respondents argued that the U.S. transactional approach to global institutions is unbecoming of a major power and undermines the collective interests of the international community.
