China and South Korea jointly held a fish-release event on Tuesday in Yantai City of east China's Shandong Province, releasing over 3.5 million fry of aquatic species into the Yellow Sea, a vital fishery area for both countries.
The released species covered major fishery resources like blue crabs and blackhead seabream, and for the first time included long-distance migratory species like swimming crabs and greenfin horse-faced filefish.
"The newly-included long-distance migratory fish species are major fishery resources shared by China and South Korea. After years of fish releases, the populations of these species have seen significant increases amid conservation and protection of the fishery resources, which will bring more profits to fishermen from both countries," said Zhang Ying, head of the China-South Korea fish release event venue.
From 2018 to 2025, the two countries have held six joint fish-release events, releasing about 11.5 million fry into the Yellow Sea.
China and South Korea have long cooperated in managing and conserving fishery resources in the Yellow Sea. In 2000, the two countries signed the China-Republic of Korea Fisheries Agreement to facilitate bilateral cooperation on fishery management, resource investigation, and offshore law enforcement.
