Hong Kong and Tokyo stock markets retreated on Wednesday, with the Hang Seng Index edging down 1.36 percent, while Tokyo's Nikkei benchmark fell 0.05 percent.
The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 1.18 percent to end at 9,038.27 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 2.72 percent to end at 5,490.76 points.
Japan's key stock index fell for the fourth consecutive session on Wednesday as investors remained cautious ahead of key monetary policy announcements from the U.S. Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan.
The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, closed at 40,654.70, down 19.85 points or 0.05 percent, from the previous trading day.
South Korea's KOSPI Index achieved gains on the day, rising by 0.74 percent to 3,254.47 points.

"Japan’s Nikkei was down 0.05 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped around 1.2 percent. And in South Korea, the KOSPI rose 0.7 percent," she said.
