The China-Russia "Joint Sea-2025" military exercise commenced Friday at a military port in Russia's Vladivostok, marking a display of growing defense ties.

Scheduled to be held from Aug 1 to 5, the exercise is themed at jointly maintaining the security of strategic channels and responding to security threats in the Western Pacific.

At the opening ceremony, the chief directors of China and Russia delivered speeches respectively, saying both sides will carry out joint operations under complex conditions to accumulate more advanced experience and deal with the threat of future war.

Both sides will focus on the theme of the exercise, further enhance the level of communication, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and effectively promote the improvement of practical cooperation and joint operation capabilities of the navies of the two countries, the two directors said.

After the ceremony, the staff of the joint directors' department and the joint command center immediately started their work to implement the exercise plan and assign the exercise tasks.

Following the conclusion of the joint exercise, the two sides will proceed to relevant areas of the Pacific Ocean to carry out a joint maritime patrol.
