China's first dedicated pet gym, Gogogym, received its first furry customers recently in West Bund Central, Shanghai's Xuhui District.
Spanning 300 square-meters, Gogogym is a wellness center specializing in fitness and rehabilitation particularly for dogs. It features four key areas, a retail space, fitness area, rehabilitation area, and massage room.
Pet rehabilitation therapists will recommend customized equipment based on each dog's physique and condition to help pets stay active and prevent illness through regular exercise.
"Dogs with significant joint or bone issues should avoid land treadmills. They should be provided hydrotherapy options such as underwater treadmills or swimming, which give safer low-impact exercise," said Lu Yilin, a pet rehabilitation therapist.
Most dog clients visiting with owners need weight management or age-related rehabilitation training.
The gym caters to all life stages, from energetic puppies to senior dogs.
"My husky is six years old and quite overweight, so we mainly want to help it lose weight. This appears to be China's first gym specifically for dogs, and I think it's pretty good," said Yao, a pet owner.
"In order to give my dog a better quality of life in its later years, we're putting more effort into maintaining its healthy legs," said Chen, another pet owner.
The one-stop center combines fitness training, rehabilitation services, and premium products, revolutionizing pet care for families.
