Israel's plan to expand its military offensive in Gaza has drawn sharp criticism at home and abroad.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the decision marks "a dangerous escalation" that will result in forced displacement of Palestinians. The UN Security Council will meet on Sunday to discuss the issue.

European Council President Antonio Costa has warned there will be consequences for EU-Israel ties. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has urged Israel to reconsider its decision.

In a drastic change of tone toward Israel, Germany has suspended all exports of military equipment that could be used in Gaza.

China has also raised "serious concerns", urging Israel to stop its "dangerous actions".

Countries including the UK, Australia, and Canada have voiced sharp opposition. Arab nations have also strongly condemned Israel's plan of action.
