Hong Kong's stock market ended mixed Monday with the benchmark Hang Seng Index up 0.19 percent to close at 24,906.81 points.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 0.08 percent to end at 8,888.08 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 0.01 percent to end at 5,460.02 points.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange was closed on Monday in observation of Mountain Day.

Timothy Pope, a China Global Television Network (CGTN) market reporter, recapped Hong Kong's stock market performance on Monday.

"Japan gets a lot of public holidays in the summer, but, Lily, our turn will come. So, while Tokyo was celebrating Mountain Day today, the Hong Kong markets were still trading and the Hang Seng ended the session 0.2 percent higher. Tech stocks in Hong Kong were trading slightly lower on average today, as the market waits for some major earnings reports this week. Among those who'll be filing, we've got China's tech, e-commerce and food delivery giants - Tencent, Alibaba, Meituan and JD.com. The latter three have all been engaged in a bit of a price war for market share on the food delivery front, and that's despite some calls for them to stop," he said.

"Hong Kong is managing to sustain investor appetite for Chinese bio-tech firms though. Another one debuted there today - Ab&B Bio-Tech - which makes vaccines for the flu and rabies. It was 4,000 times oversubscribed, priced at the bottom end of the range and ended the session 158 percent higher. So, those Hong Kong bio-tech stocks have been very popular in Hong Kong among investors lately, and that's just continuing," he said.
