AI-powered toys are gaining growing popularity in China among a broader range of customers, not only young kids and seniors, but also office workers.
Riding the wave of AI innovation, many early education toys have evolved beyond simple features, such as soothing children to sleep, telling stories, or singing nursery rhymes. Today's toys allow users to create personalized intelligent agents, replicate voices for interactive conversations, capture photos to generate animations or picture books, and even send detailed feedback on children's reading progress directly to parents.
"It can now recognize more than 70 different emotions. By analyzing children's reading intentions and interests, and combining them with emotion and vocal print recognition, the toy can accurately capture every subtle psychological change in a child," said Li Xin, CEO of a technology company in Shenzhen.
AI-powered toys are also expanding their knowledge capabilities.
"Using our self-developed large model, the product can recognize and understand most species worldwide, currently supporting over three million species. After identification, it can access a range of related knowledge, which it then uses to generate AI-powered educational content, including scientific explanations and stories in both Chinese and English," said Yang Kun, co-founder of a technology company in Shenzhen.
In addition, AI toys have also found a growing audience among young adults and office workers, serving as a fun and effective way to relieve stress.
"In the early design phase, we focused on children and the elderly, but after launching and testing the product, we found that most buyers were white-collar workers. We firmly believe that AI-powered toys will have enormous market potential," said Wang Zhexin, CEO of an information and technology company.
According to data from Market Research Future, the global AI toy market surpassed 11 billion U.S. dollars in 2024 and is projected to reach 58 billion U.S. dollars by 2030, with an average annual growth rate of over 20 percent.
