An event inviting submissions of AI visual works was launched in Hollywood, Los Angeles on Friday to explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence in visual storytelling while envisioning a future where humans and AI thrive together.

Titled the "Bright Future of Humanity" Global AI Visual Works Call-for-Submissions, the event was co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the New York Film Academy.

More than 100 guests, including Vice President of the New York Film Academy Sonny Calderon, Oscar judges, veteran Hollywood filmmakers, and AI experts, attended the launch ceremony.

Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell expressed optimism towards the use of AI in animation industry at the event.

"I think it might be quite the opposite. Like when CGI came along in animation, it created many more jobs and it didn't get rid of hand drawn art or hand drawn animation, in fact, that was elevated as well. And that's my hope for AI is that it's going to just elevate film making, storytelling and artwork everywhere," he said.

Rules and procedures for the submissions were released at the ceremony.

According to CMG, the event aims to explore emotional connections between humans and AI beyond coding, and envision a future where humanity and AI coexist and prosper together. CMG said it hopes to work with global partners to promote the development and governance of AI, resist misuse of the technology, narrow the digital divide, and ensure AI can serve the good of humanity.

In recent months, CMG has rolled out several AI-driven film productions and innovative events including the CMG World Robot Contest, the Nanny Robot Conference, and the World Humanoid Robot Games.

CMG also displayed its new film logo at the launch ceremony, and AI-generated microfilms produced by its multilingual outlet China Global Television Network (CGTN).

The launch drew wide media coverage, with 723 outlets from 32 countries and regions, including the Associated Press and NBC, reporting on the event.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed the death of its secretary Ali Larijani in a statement, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported early Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed deep condolences over the death of Larijani in a statement, describing it as a major loss to the nation.

Born in Najaf, Iraq, in 1958, Larijani has held prominent positions in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iranian government agencies, and the state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) after the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

In 2005, Larijani was appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, stepping down in 2007. He entered parliament in 2008 and served as speaker for three consecutive terms.

In August 2025, Larijani returned to the post of Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, once again becoming a central figure in Iran's leadership.

Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Tuesday confirmed the death of Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij volunteer force, in a U.S.-Israeli strike.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel had killed Larijani in ongoing strikes on Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces said earlier on Tuesday that it had launched wide-scale strikes on Iranian government infrastructure in Tehran. It later said the attacks had killed Larijani and Soleimani.

The deaths came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting Feb. 28, to which Iran and its regional allies responded with attacks on Israeli and U.S. interests across the Middle East.
