Torrential rain swept across China’s northeastern provinces of Liaoning and Jilin over the past three days, prompting emergency alerts and evacuations, with widespread disruption to traffic.

The city of Dandong in Liaoning Province issued a Level-IV emergency alert for rainstorms on Monday, evacuating residents from low-lying areas after overnight downpours flooded urban streets and damaged roads and bridges in rural areas.

In Dalian city of the province, emergency drainage specialists rushed to flooded roads for repair and cleaning work after heavy rainfall lashed the city from Sunday to Monday. Traffic was disrupted in some parts of the city but was soon resumed after the clearing work on Monday.

Rainstorms also struck Tonghua and Linjiang in Jilin Province from Saturday to Monday. In response, local authorities took precautionary measures including opening river dams, evacuating people living in risky areas and inspecting places prone to mountain torrents and waterlogging to ensure people's safety.

According to meteorological forecasts, parts of the two provinces will experience heavy rain or rainstorms in the coming days, with some areas expecting torrential downpours.
