China's top legislator Zhao Leji on Tuesday met with Park Byeong-seug, special envoy of President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Lee Jae-myung, in Beijing.
During the meeting, Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said that Chinese President Xi Jinping and ROK President Lee Jae-myung have reached important consensus on deepening China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations.
Zhao said that China is willing to work with the ROK, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, to uphold mutual respect, enhance dialogue and communication, boost understanding and mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, accumulate more positive energy, and champion friendship as the overarching theme so as to ensure that the development of China-ROK relations keep pace with the times and enjoy steady and sustained growth.
China's NPC stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the ROK's National Assembly in a bid to contribute to the continuous and sound development of China-ROK relations, said Zhao.
For his part, Park Byeong-seug said that the new ROK government attaches high importance to developing a mature and stable relationship with China.
The ROK is willing to work closely with the Chinese side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continuously enhance political mutual trust, strengthen the friendship between the two peoples, so as to bring the development of bilateral relations back on track and jointly promote regional peace, stability, and development, said the special envoy.
