China supports all efforts conducive to a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis, said a Chinese envoy at a United Nations Security Council meeting on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York City, Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, said it is hoped that all parties will show calm and restraint and push for the de-escalation of the situation in the battlefield.

Geng emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue and negotiations, despite significant differences in positions on key issues.
Calling on the international community to foster a positive atmosphere for a political solution, Geng said the international community, especially important stakeholders, should make more diplomatic efforts to reach ceasefire and send more positive signals to promote dialogue and negotiations.
Geng further reaffirmed China's commitment to promoting the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.
"From the first day of the crisis, China has been calling for a ceasefire and actively promoting peace talks and the political settlement of the crisis. Guided by the four points on what must be done put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, we have maintained engagement with the parties concerned, dispatched special envoys to conduct shuttle diplomacy, and initiated the establishment of the 'Friends of Peace' platform on the Ukrainian crisis at the United Nations to build consensus on peace and advance peace efforts. China is willing to continue to work with the international community to play a constructive role in promoting an early political resolution to the crisis," he said.
He also said the Chinese side welcomes the recent engagement and talks between Russia and the United States, Ukraine and the United States, as well as Europe and the United States over the Ukraine crisis.
