Overseas Chinese in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Brazil gathered to watch live broadcasts of a grand military parade held in Beijing on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in the UAE organized an event in Dubai for members and guests to watch the live television coverage. Zhang Bingyang, the executive director of the chamber, said Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at the event in Beijing had resonated strongly with the audience in Dubai.
"Today's event was quite inspiring, and President Xi Jinping's speech was very uplifting. We deeply felt the coordination, conformity and unity of the military troops -- the navy, army, and air force -- under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Seeing the five-star red flag hoisted high, we overseas Chinese were deeply moved, tears welling up in our eyes. Eighty years ago, during the arduous years of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the CPC mobilized the Chinese military and civilians on a broad scale to resist bravely, playing a pivotal role and becoming the key to the final victory of the war," said Zhang.
In Brazil's Sao Paulo, overseas Chinese nationals also followed the live broadcast closely.
"What I remember most is the solemn flag-raising ceremony and the orderly march of the troops on parade. They make me feel the strength of our country. President Xi's speech left a deep impression on me. I believe we should remember history and do more for the local community," said Qiu Yaowei, first executive vice president of Juventude Chinesa Do Brasil, a Chinese youth organization in Brazil.
