Gascoigne Road Flyover slip road to Yau Ma Tei to reopen September 14

The Government today (September 4) reminded the public that, to tie in with the commissioning of the newly constructed Gascoigne Road Flyover along Kansu Street between Ferry Street and Temple Street under the Central Kowloon Route project, the previously temporarily closed slip road to Yau Ma Tei at Exit 6D of Gascoigne Road Flyover will reopen at 6am, September 14 (Sunday). The following traffic arrangements will be implemented:

  • Vehicles travelling along the Gascoigne Road Flyover (westbound) may go to Mong Kok (West), Yau Ma Tei and Hong Kong (West) using Exit 6D (see Annex 1), which offers motorists a more direct route to reach Hoi Ting Road and Hoi Wang Road (such as the West Kowloon Government Offices and Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters), Hau Cheung Street Gas Station and the Fruit Market Transit Centre; and
  • As relevant road markings at Ferry Street (northbound) will be reinstated accordingly, vehicles turning left from Yan Cheung Road (eastbound) to Ferry Street (northbound) may only go straight or turn right, and cannot move to the leftmost lane to Lai Cheung Road (westbound) (see Annex 2). For motorists going to Hau Cheung Street Gas Station via the above road section, pleaseheedthe above traffic arrangement.
  • Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be in place at relevant locations. Motorists are advised to heed traffic signs and drive carefully when passing through these road sections.

A Government spokesman said that the works of the Central Kowloon Route project have entered the final stage. Structural works for the tunnels, slip roads and tunnel buildings have been completed, while the associated electrical and mechanical works are also in full swing and are expected to be completed by end-2025.

The Government has briefed the District Councils concerned and stakeholders on the above arrangements, including distributing pamphlets to District Council members, district personalities, neighbouring housing estates and schools, Fruit Market stall traders, relevant motoring associations and public transport operators. The Highways Department (HyD) and the Transport Department (TD) have stepped up publicity since early September to remind motorists about the arrangements via large banners and tunnel broadcasts in phases.

The public may refer to the HyD's Central Kowloon Route project webpage (ckr-hyd.hk/traffic_diversion) for details, keep abreast of the latest traffic news through the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk) and the HKeMobility mobile application, and refer to the Facebook pages of the HyD (www.facebook.com/hydgovhk) and the TD's Agent T (www.facebook.com/AgentT.hk).
