China extended condolences to the victims over a deadly landslide in Sudan, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

On Monday, the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), one of the armed groups in the Darfur region, revealed that the entire population of a village in Marra Mountains was killed in a landslide caused by the torrential rainfall on Aug 31.

The SLM said in a statement that all the residents of Tarasin village, estimated to be more than 1,000 people, died after the tragedy, with only one survivor, according to preliminary information.

At a press conference in Beijing, Guo expressed condolences over the deadly landslide on behalf of the Chinese government.

"We have noticed that the landslide took place in a village of west Sudan's Marra Mountains. China extends condolences to the victims and sincere sympathies to their families," Guo noted.
