International observers closely followed Wednesday's V-Day commemoration in Beijing, where Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech praised for its depth and global resonance.

Marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the address underscored China's historical legacy and its peaceful path toward shared global development.

Observers noted that the speech reaffirmed China's commitment to peaceful development through modernization, an approach they said offers hope for a more united and prosperous global future.

"I [saw that] no matter they were in school, or office, or in a company, all the people in China were in groups watching the program. Being a foreigner, I feel that in China, people are united together forever, proud of Chinese history and the development, and they fully [embrace] the spirit of the CPC and for peaceful development. So I wish long live China, long live justice, and long live peaceful development!" said Altab Hossin, a Bangladeshi international affairs expert.

"The message that the Chinese president also shared with the nation and the world was pro-peace, full of hope, but remembrance of martyrs and victims and Chinese people's contribution to the world freedom and deliberation from fascism, Nazism and militarism. That was a speech that, of course, celebrated Chinese people's bravery and sacrifices. But it also reminded that peace, cooperation and unity of people are really a pathway to secure the future. And he offered a friendly hand to the whole world for everybody who would like to cooperate," said Dragana Mitrovic, director of the Center for Asian and Far Eastern Studies under the University of Belgrade.

Experts also said the commemorative event sent a clear message to the world: lasting development must be rooted in peace and stability. They highlighted China's vision of building a shared future for humanity, supported by its four global initiatives on development, security, civilization, and governance as a roadmap for unity, cooperation, and common prosperity.

"President Xi's four initiatives are very important for both the region and the world. Globally, these initiatives promote peace, development and cultural understanding. And I, as a journalist, I believe that they show China's vision of the fair world. These initiatives offer a way for cooperation and understanding. When the nation works together in peace, they can trade and grow. These initiatives are [aimed] toward a better, more connected world," said Czech journalist Helena Kocova.

The European Commission's autumn 2025 economic forecast shows that driven by a surge in exports in anticipation of U.S. tariff increases, the European Union's (EU) economy maintained growth in the third quarter of this year, and it is expected to continue expanding at a moderate pace over the forecast horizon.

In the report released on Monday, the Commission said the gross domestic product (GDP) of the EU is expected to grow 1.4 percent in 2025, with the eurozone expanding 1.3 percent. Growth in 2026 is forecast at 1.4 percent for the EU and 1.2 percent for the eurozone, both slightly lower than projections made in May.

Eurozone headline inflation is projected to ease to 2.1 percent this year from 2.4 percent in 2024. Inflation across the EU is seen declining from 2.6 percent in 2024 to 2.2 percent in 2027, remaining slightly above the eurozone rate.

Due to the increase in defence spending, the EU's fiscal deficit is expected to rise to 3.4 percent of GDP in 2027 from 3.1 percent in 2024. The EU debt-to-GDP ratio is projected to rise from 84.5 percent in 2024 to 85 percent in 2027, with the eurozone ratio set to rise from around 88 percent to 90.4 percent.

The forecast noted that globally, trade barriers have reached historic highs, and the EU now faces higher average tariffs on exports to the U.S. compared with the spring forecast. Persistent trade policy uncertainty continues to weigh on economic activity, with tariffs and non-tariff restrictions potentially constraining EU growth more than expected. Any escalation in geopolitical tensions could intensify supply shocks, it noted.
