Smart, digital technologies shine at 2025 CIFTIS

At this year's China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing, visitors are surprised to see how smart and digital technologies are reshaping daily life, from clothing and food to housing and transport.

A virtual fitting mirror that enables online tailoring attracts visitors' attention. Powered by AI algorithms and 3D modeling, the system can instantly get 13 key body measurements of the user, such as waistline and arm length. What once required a tailor's meticulous work can now be completed in seconds with just a few movements.

"We are going to launch a virtual try-on [function], helping reduce the gap between what's shown by sellers and what buyers actually receive, making clothing customization much more convenient," said producer of the virtual fitting mirror Pan Lei.

Food safety is also receiving a digital boost. A monitoring system that combines 5G and AI can track food-handling operations in real time and flag potential hazards.

"For instance, if staff aren't wearing uniforms or masks, or even smoke in food-processing areas, the camera automatically detects and uploads this information to the system, triggering alerts. So regulators can intervene right away," said exhibitor Fan Haiting.

Digital technology is transforming housing as well. Robots are now capable of tasks such as spraying paint, grinding walls, leveling floors, and even supervising safety on construction sites.

"Our robots can automatically avoid obstacles and identify work areas. Once we upload a CAD (computer-aided design) drawing, they can carry out construction on their own. It saves labor and materials, ensures safety, and delivers precise work with minimal error," said exhibitor Wang Huijie.

Transport is another highlight. EH216-S, an autonomous passenger drone designed by Chinese drone maker EHang, received China's first certificate for autonomous passenger drone operation in March, marking China's entry into the commercial operation stage of autonomous passenger drones.

The five-day 2025 CIFTIS opened on Wednesday, with the theme "Embrace Intelligent Technologies, Empower Trade in Services."
