Arab and Islamic states condemned Israel's "barbaric" attack on Qatar, decrying the airstrike as a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international law and a threat to regional peace and security, during a meeting in the Qatari capital Doha Sunday.

The closed-door preparatory meeting, gathering foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic states ahead of an emergency Arab-Islamic summit scheduled for Monday, was held to discuss last week's Israeli attack on Doha and prepare a draft statement for the leaders' meeting.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani said Israel's recent attack on Doha will not prevent countries including Qatar and Egypt from continuing their mediation efforts to end war in Gaza.

Al-Thani stressed that the region cannot achieve comprehensive peace and security unless the Palestinian people obtain their legitimate rights.

In his speech, Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit called for a resolutely response to the Israeli assault on Qatar and urged Arab and Islamic states to work together to halt what he called Israel's "war machine."

According to reports, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani also addressed the meeting, warning that Israel's aggression will not stop at Qatar. He urged Arab and Islamic countries to form a joint defense alliance to resist Israel's aggressive actions in the region.

The foreign ministers issued a draft statement on the attack, warning that Israel's barbaric acts threaten regional peace, according to reports.

According to media report, an excerpt of the draft resolution said the brutal Israeli attack on Qatar and the continuation of Israel's hostile acts, including genocide and expansionist policies, threaten the prospects of peace and coexistence in the region.

These actions threaten everything that has been achieved on the path of normalizing ties with Israel, said the draft.

Israel launched an unprecedented airstrike in the Qatari capital last Tuesday, targeting a building where Hamas officials were meeting to discuss the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States.

Five members of Hamas and a Qatari security officer were killed during the strike, while key members of the Hamas negotiating team survived.

The attack drew swift condemnation from Qatar and other members of the international community, claiming that Israel's strike seriously violates international law, blatantly infringes on Qatar's sovereignty, undermines peace mediation efforts, and threatens regional security and stability.

A powerful winter storm swept through Toronto and surrounding areas on Thursday, causing school closures and travel delays as heavy snowfall reduced visibility and affected transportation services.

Meteorological authorities warned that heavy snowfall would greatly reduce visibility, while local transportation officials reported that several roads had been completely closed and major surface transit routes were operating at reduced speeds due to the storm.

Toronto Pearson International Airport officials announced Thursday that air traffic control measures had been implemented due to severe weather, affecting several inbound and outbound flights. Meanwhile, several local school boards in Toronto fully suspended classes, while others enacted partial closures in response to the storm.
