China slams US, Japan, ROK over interference in Taiwan, maritime affairs

China strongly deplores and firmly rejects the irresponsible remarks made by the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Taiwan and maritime affairs, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

Guo made the remarks in response to media query about a joint statement by the three countries, which he said interferes with China's internal affairs and smears China.

"The Unite States, Japan and South Korea made irresponsible remarks on issues related to Taiwan and the South China Sea, interfered with China's internal affairs, and slandered and smeared China. China strongly deplores and firmly rejects this. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair that brooks no external interference. The greatest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait comes from Taiwan separatist activities and external collusion and support. To uphold cross-Strait peace and stability, it is necessary to adhere to the one-China principle and firmly oppose Taiwan secession," said Guo.

"Relevant countries should abide by the one-China principle, stop abetting Taiwan separatist activities in any form and refrain from sending wrong signals to Taiwan separatist forces. At present, the situation in the South China Sea is generally stable. China is always committed to safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, while properly managing differences with the countries concerned through dialog and consultation. Relevant countries should respect the joint efforts of regional countries to address issues through dialog and consultation, uphold peace and stability, and stop hyping up tensions or stoking confrontation," he said.
