Russia will use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and is keen on establishing stable, long-term conditions for projects within the nuclear sphere, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday at the Global Atomic Forum of the World Atomic Week in Moscow.

Putin said the absolute priority for Russia is ensuring nuclear safety. He said Russia is developing small-scale land-based and floating nuclear power plant projects, and the serial production will start "very soon."

He also invited scientists from different countries to cooperate in developing technologies.

Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), also attended the event.

He mentioned Iran's nuclear issue when answering questions from reporters.

"This is also another flash point in the international scene and we are trying to make everything possible to stabilize situation to ensure that Iran cooperates with the IAEA. This is indispensable," said Grossi.

The World Atomic Week is running from Thursday to Sunday.
