U.S. dollar ticks down

The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.25 percent to 97.905 at 15:00. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1731 dollars from 1.1704 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3438 dollars from 1.3410 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 148.64 Japanese yen, lower than 149.44 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.7972 Swiss francs from 0.7975 Swiss francs, and it dropped to 1.3914 Canadian dollars from 1.3937 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.4146 Swedish kronor from 9.4041 Swedish kronor.

Oil prices rose on Wednesday.

The West Texas Intermediate for February delivery increased by 87 cents, or 1.42 percent, to settle at 62.02 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for March delivery gained 1.05 dollars, or 1.6 percent, to settle at 66.52 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
