Traffic flow across China remained high on Friday, the third day of China's ongoing eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday season, with over 300 million cross-regional trips expected to make across the country.
Data from the Ministry of Transport show that China is expected to log some 300.13 million cross-regional passenger trips on Friday, up 5.9 percent year on year.
The national railway system is expected to handle 18.25 million passenger trips on the day, representing a year-on-year growth of 3.7 percentage points.
About 277.56 million passenger trips are expected to be made on highways nationwide on Friday, up 6.1 percent year on year. The highway motor vehicle traffic volume is expected to reach 61.7 million vehicle trips, primarily consisting of short- and medium-distance tourism travels.
On Friday, the national air passenger transport system was projected to handle 2.37 million passenger trips, up 7.3 percent over the same day of the previous year. Meanwhile, some 18,946 flights were expected to be operated, a year-on-year increase of 8.69 percent.
Also on the day, the waterway passenger volume also rose, registering an estimated 1.95 million passenger trips, a 17.4 percent increase from the previous day and a 8.5 percent increase over the same day of last year.
This year, China's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays runs from Oct 1 to Oct 8.
