China's semiconductor industry firmly opposes actions that abuse the concept of national security to impose discriminatory restrictions on overseas branches of Chinese enterprises, said the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement comes after the Dutch government said on Sunday that it has made a "highly exceptional" decision to intervene in Nexperia, a subsidiary of Chinese company Wingtech, citing concerns that it could "pose a risk to Dutch and European economic security."

According to the association, the intervention by Dutch government against Nexperia, a CSIA member comany, has drawn significant attention from China's semiconductor industry.

In its statement, CSIA expressed firm support for its member companies in safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests and in maintaining a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment as well as the stability of the global industrial chain.

CSIA made clear its firm opposition to the discriminatory measures targeting specific companies, stressing that such actions harm the open, inclusive, and coordinated ecosystem of the global semiconductor industry.

The association will keep following the development of the situation, actively pay attention to the concerns of its member companies, and stand ready to send out the voices of the China's semiconductor industry to the international community through all legitimate channels, the statement said.

CSIA's statement echoed remarks made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a press briefing on Monday, during which he urged the relevant country to earnestly abide by market principles and not politicize trade or economic issues. He also affirmed China's steadfast resolve to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
