Dominica is a close friend and partner of China in the Caribbean, said Chinese President Xi Jinping when meeting with President of the Commonwealth of Dominica Sylvanie Burton, who is in Beijing for the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women.

In the meeting, Xi extended welcome to Burton for paying her first visit to China as president of her country.

"Since assuming the presidency, you have placed great importance on developing relations with China, which I highly commend. Dominica is a good friend and a good partner of China in the Caribbean. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than 20 years ago, bilateral cooperation between our nations in various fields has flourished and friendship between the two peoples has grown deeper, setting an example of friendly cooperation between countries with different social systems and of different sizes," said Xi.

Burton echoed President Xi for his description of the partnership between the two nations.

"For many of us small island developing states, China's vision of building a community with a shared future for all, where no nation is left behind, has been both inspiring and reassuring. China has been a great friend, indeed, a true friend and a valued partner," she said.
