Sudan has reported more than 120,000 cases of cholera infection since the latest round of outbreak in July 2024, with more than 3,000 deaths, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Saturday.
OCHA said that the armed conflict in Sudan has disabled approximately 75 percent of the country's health facilities, leaving millions of local people without access to clean drinking water or basic medical services. The cholera epidemic is still spreading rapidly in Sudan, and the local health system is struggling.
Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023. The war has killed nearly 30,000 people and forced over 12 million to flee their homes, both within Sudan and across its borders.
