The two installations are the winners of the Architectural Installation Design Competition for the 2025 National Games in Hong Kong, co-organised by the National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong) and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects with the aim of creating unique landmarks to celebrate Hong Kong's first co-hosting of the National Games.

He praised the winning architects for creatively showcasing the uplifting ideals of "collaboration and unity," "respect and inclusion," and "sportsmanship." The competition embodies the integration of culture, sports, and tourism, bringing new experiences to citizens and tourists as they celebrate Hong Kong's historic co-hosting of the National Games for the first time.
Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Lester Huang
Lester Huang, Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, said the National Games being co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao for the first time is of great significance. The Club is honoured to support the design competition and exhibition of the two installations, promoting the National Games in our community. He congratulated and thanked the winners for integrating sports, arts and community elements into their works, making them popular photo spots while showcasing Hong Kong's diversity and innovation as well as the vitality of the National Games.
One of the winning works, The Glowing Blossom of Unity, can be seen at the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section). Featuring a luminous tree with three stainless steel stems emerging from a common root, it is a symbol of the mutual co-operation and prosperity of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Its canopy is adorned with flowers made from recycled glass representing the three co-hosts: the cotton tree flower of Guangdong Province, the bauhinia of the Hong Kong SAR, and the lotus flower of the Macao SAR, expressing their deep-rooted unity. Winning architects of this installation are Ip Hay-fung Stephen, Chan Chun-yu Keith, Ng Siu-cheong Eric, Keung Shing-fung Adwin, Kan Po-ying Kathy and Pang Hoi-ching Hannah.
The other winning work, One Step at a Time and Every Step Counts, is installed at both ends of Kai Tak Station Square. Featuring a six-metre-high sneaker and a giant shoe print, it represents the steadfastness, perseverance and resilience of sportsmen and women. The single shoe expresses the theme of inclusive collaboration, while the shoe print, featuring two Chinese characters meaning “together in one heart”, highlights the collaboration of the three regions in hosting the National Games. The winning architect of this installation is Dr Chan Lai Kiu.
Apart from the architectural installations, a display featuring models of the two winning works as well as four designs receiving a Certificate of Merit are being exhibited at Central Market from 28 October to 31 October. Public DIY workshops will be held on 29 October, 8 November and 15 November at Central Market, Kai Tak Station Square and the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section), respectively. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own mini crystal tree or paint a mini sneaker to take home.
In support of the National Games and NGD & NSOG, the Club has committed over HK$500 million to the Hong Kong and Guangdong Competition Regions. It is the sole Partner Sponsor of the Hong Kong Competition Region, where it is supporting volunteer service programmes, territory-wide community and school promotional activities, as well as initiatives to help underprivileged groups and young people attend the events as spectators.
In the Guangdong Competition Region, the Club is providing technical support for the equestrian events in Shenzhen, leveraging its extensive experience in organising horse sports competitions. To help ensure the equestrian events will be conducted to a high standard, the Club is also deploying an expert team and loaning specialist equipment. Additionally, the Club will support the Guangdong Competition Region's official activities, volunteer services and promotion work.
To recognise the achievements of Hong Kong athletes at the 15th National Games, the Club is sponsoring the Hong Kong Sports Institute to provide cash incentives under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme to the medallists.
