The Standby Signal No.1 is now taking effect. Hong Kong Observatory said that according to the current forecast, the strong tropical storm Fung-Wong is expected to pass over 400 kilometers east of Hong Kong on Tuesday evening. It's anticipated that HK's weather will gradually be dominated by the northeast monsoon. When the threat of Fung-Wong to Hong Kong is lifted, the observatory will replace the Standby Signal No.1 with a strong monsoon signal or cancel all tropical cyclone warning signals.

At noon, Fung-Wong was about 510 kilometers southeast by east of Hong Kong and expected to move northward at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour, crossing the northeastern part of the South China Sea.

The observatory said that Fung-Wong has weakened slightly over the past few hours. It is expected that the chance of strong winds persisting in most areas of Hong Kong on Tuesday is low, and the Standby Signal No. 1 will remain in effect during the day on Tuesday. Besides, the outer rainbands of Fung-Wong are gradually approaching the area of the Pearl River Estuary, which is expected to bring one or two showers of light rain to Hong Kong.

The observatory said that Fung-Wong will continue to move away from Hong Kong, but due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, strong winds will still blow in some areas during the evening, with occasional strong gusts in the highlands. There will also be surging waves in the sea. Citizens are requested to stay away from the shore and stop water activities.
