The U.S. State Department has approved a potential 100 million U.S. dollars military sale to Japan, according to an announcement by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency on Tuesday.

The package aims to enhance Japan's Aegis fleet combat systems and improve interoperability with the U.S. Navy.

The potential deal encompasses technical and logistical support, including testing and evaluation, systems integration, maintenance, and engineering assistance.

Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.19 percent to 3,870.28 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.39 percent to close at 3,175.91 points Wednesday.

The ChiNext Index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and other indices, reflects the performance of stocks listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
