Spokesman for China’s Ministry of National Defense, Zhang Xiaogang, on Thursday criticized Lai Ching-te of the Taiwan authorities as a peace saboteur and war agitator who is fawning on the United States.

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Zhang commented on Lai's recent remarks on the so-called relationship between the U.S. and Taiwan, as well as his plan to introduce a special 40-billion-dollar budget for arms purchases.

"The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' collusion with external forces to carry out separatist provocations is the root cause of the tensions and instability across the Taiwan Strait. Lai Ching-te is fawning on the U.S. without any principle, crazily seeking military buildup, and heightening confrontations across the strait. He is purely a peace saboteur and war agitator. However, he has shamelessly talked about peace and made pretentious remarks on strength. This is completely overconfident and self-deceiving. We warn the DPP authorities that national reunification is unstoppable, and pawns are destined to be abandoned. Those who betray their nation and seek secession will eventually see their names written on the wall of shame," said Zhang.

It is extremely dangerous that Japan is accelerating the weaponization and militarization of space and fueling a space arms race, Zhang Xiaogang, spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, said at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Zhang made the remarks in response to a media query about Japan's claims to have made substantive progress in technologies that could disrupt satellites of other nations.

Japan also reportedly plans to reorganize its Air Self-Defense Force into the Air and Space Self-Defense Force and to construct a spacecraft carrier in fiscal year 2026.

Some media analyses suggest that vigilance is needed, as Japan may be planning a Pearl Harbor incident in space.

"It concerns all countries' security, development, and prosperity to maintain lasting peace and security in space. Japan's unrestrained development of satellite-jamming technology is accelerating the weaponization and militarization of space and fueling a space arms race. It is extremely dangerous and unpopular," Zhang noted.

"Given that Japan's vicious militarists once launched sneak attacks and that the country is now taking an offensive space policy, it is hardly surprising that there are growing concerns of another Pearl Harbor scenario in space," he said.
