Dominica President Sylvanie Burton praised China's modernization and the preservation of history and culture during her recent visit to the country.
During the trip, President Burton met with China's top leadership, attended the Global Women's Summit, engaged with young entrepreneurs, visited Chinese companies, and toured major cultural landmarks, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Museum of the Communist Party of China.
Speaking in an interview with China Media Group (CMG), Burton said it was particularly significant to hear Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirm support for global gender equality not only through words but also by committing concrete resources.
She also highlighted China's success in balancing rapid modernization with traditional lifestyles.
"So for me, China has preserved its history, as I mentioned, its heritage and even its cuisine. I usually stand in my hotel room and look at all the highways that you have and all the vehicles. This, for me, is a contrast. Here you have modernization, but you've not left behind what will keep you healthy, what will get you to work faster. And so you've incorporated the two, both in terms of modernization and what you used to do before," she said.
President Burton also praised China's technological advancements, saying Dominica could benefit from cooperation with China in developing its own technological capacity.
"The technology in China is something that we look at and I see China should come to Dominica to assist us in our technological development. So that is also something that I look at as a positive for China. A lot of work has been done. I applaud China for the work that they've done and the work that they continue to do," she said.
