Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney departed on Tuesday for a four-day official visit to China, marking the first visit by a Canadian prime minister to China in eight years, since 2017.
He is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss bilateral ties.
In a social media post, Carney said China is Canada's second-largest trading partner and the world's second-largest economy. A pragmatic and constructive relationship between the two nations will create greater stability, security, and prosperity on both sides of the Pacific, he added.
At the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Carney’s visit to China is from Wednesday to Saturday.
